To set up a new named scholarship, please review the Scholarship Guidelines and fill out and submit the Scholarship Form to the Aquinas Catholic Schools Development Office.

Below is a list of all named scholarships offered.

Edward & Beth Ryan Memorial

Purpose: Established in Memory of Edward Ryan '41 and Beth (Noelke '42) Ryan by their family to continue to support Aquinas.


Francis E. Zahn Scholarship

Purpose: Established in Memory of Francis E. Zahn '37  to continue to support Aquinas.

K-6

Suzanne Meloche Memorial

Purpose: Established in memory of Suzanne Meloche.
Award: $500 awarded to two students each year.
Criteria: Students with financial need.

6th Grade

George & Margaret Ellenz

Award: $100.00 scholarship awarded each year.
Criteria: Awarded to a sixth grade graduate of Blessed Sacrament School that exemplifies “being part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

7th Grade

Don Gallagher Family Scholarship

Award: $500.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: Student with financial need entering Aquinas Middle School at seventh grade. Award may be renewed during eighth grade year if same student remains eligible. Student is respectful, cooperative and volunteers within the community and parish. Student does not need to be on the honor roll but does need to put forth academic effort.

 
Margaret Grelle Memorial Science Scholarship

Purpose: In memory of Peggy Grelle, former science teacher at Aquinas Middle School. Peggy was stricken by an astrocytoma (a type of brain tumor) while driving to Aquinas Middle School on October 4, 2005. She received an operation the following day to remove the tumor. She passed away on February 2, 2008.
Award: $500.00 per year to one student.
Criteria: Awarded to one incoming seventh grade student at Aquinas Middle School that shows effort and love of science. Student has good character. 


Sara Kerrigan Memorial

Purpose: In memory of Sara Kerrigan, Aquinas High School class of 2006.
Award: 3 - $100.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Awarded to three graduating sixth grade students from Blessed Sacrament School who will be attending Aquinas Middle School. Students who have shown a dedication to studies and to their fellow students.

 
Geri Houlihan

Award: $500.00 awarded to two students each year.
Criteria: Given to incoming seventh graders from St. Patrick School entering Aquinas Middle School.

 
Principal Kay Berra

Award: $250.00 awarded each year to one student.
Criteria: Graduating 6th grader from Blessed Sacrament grade school that is entering Aquinas Middle School. Student must be active in religious, school and community service. Must be given to a student that is not receiving any other scholarship. Must be given to a student that shows heart and effort for their education and cares about others.

8th Grade

George & Margaret Ellenz

Award: $100.00 scholarship awarded each year.

Criteria: Awarded to a eighth grade graduate entering Aquinas High School that exemplifies “being part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

 
Herbert & Barbara Heili

Award: $200.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: Awarded to a “good kid” – someone working hard in school (not a merit based or financial need based scholarship).

Aquinas Middle School & Aquinas High School Scholarships

Joseph Wewerka

Award: Multiple $500-1,000 scholarships awarded annually.
Criteria: Students with financial need. 

 
Bishop John Paul

Purpose: In Honor of the late Bishop John Paul.
Award: 8 - $500.00 scholarships awarded to multiple students each year.
Criteria: Awarded to students with financial need – “No student should be denied a Catholic Education due to their family’s financial situation.”

 
Bishop John Paul Estate

Purpose: In memory of Most Rev. John J. Paul, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of La Crosse. He passed away March 5, 2006, at age 87. John Paul was a student and an athlete at Aquinas High School graduating in 1935. He helped found Aquinas Middle School in 1992.
Award: 19 - $500.00 scholarships awarded to multiple students each year.

 
Aquinas Golf Outing

Award: Annually funded by the Aquinas Scholarship Golf Outing. All proceeds go directly to scholarships at Aquinas. The event annually generates $15,000-20,000 for scholarships each year.  
Criteria: Multiple scholarships of various amounts awarded to middle and high school students based on financial need.

Aquinas High School Scholarships

Vernon F. Dale

Award: Multiple scholarships of various amounts awarded annually.
Criteria: Families with financial need.  

 
George & Virginia Schneider

Award: 7 - $1,000.00 scholarships awarded to multiple students each year.
Criteria: Awarded to students at Aquinas High School with financial need.

 
Michael Kenneth Pitz Memorial

Purpose: The Michael Kenneth Pitz Scholarship was created in memory of Michael Pitz who tragically died in a car accident in 1971 after graduating from Aquinas.
Award: 9 - $2,500.00 scholarships awarded each year to high school students.
Criteria: Given to a model student that demonstrates great character, passion for education, faith and community service.


John Bissen Memorial

Purpose: In memory of John Bissen, a 1936 graduate of Aquinas High School, and a long-time Aquinas supporter.
Award: 2 - $2,500.00 scholarships awarded each year to high school students.
Criteria: Based on financial need.

                             
Bradford Stanley Frohmader Memorial

Purpose: In Memory of Bradford Stanley Frohmader, Class of 1996, who died at the age of 22 in a boating accident.
Award: $500.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: Must be a Catholic family. Employed single mother. Mother and student currently making an effort at contributing to the student’s tuition. Student shows they are improving academically and is working to their capabilities.

 
Quillin Family Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: In memory of Edward J. Quillin.
Award: $500.00 awarded to one student at Aquinas High School each year.
Criteria: Must be a Catholic family.


Ernest B. Tremmel

Award: 2 - $500.00 scholarships awarded to two students each year.
Criteria: Aquinas High School students who need the assistance.

 
Sharon Ballard & George Kerckhove

Award: $250.00 (1) & $500.00 (1) awarded each year to two AHS Students.
Criteria: Based on financial need. Involved in school and community activities. Minimum GPA of 3.0.

 
Eugene Murphy

Award: 6 - $500.00 scholarships awarded each year
Criteria: Students with financial need.

 
Cecil Allen Family

Award: 2 - $500.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Awarded to students with financial need.

 
Howard Birnbaum Sr. Memorial

Award: $1,000.00 awarded to one student per year.
Criteria: Based on financial need. Student has at least a 3.0 GPA. Student is a member of St. James Parish.


Father John Pinon

Award: 2 - $1,250.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Based on financial need. A student that exhibits proficiency in academics, sports, leadership and shows a strong commitment to Christian Service.


Thomas & Evelyn Coughlin Memorial

Purpose: In memory of Thomas, Class of 1934, and Evelyn, Class of 1936.
Award: $500.00 awarded each year to an Aquinas High School Student.
Criteria: Based on financial need. Student is a member of St. James Parish and active in student activities.

 
Dr. Charles J. Mears Memorial

Purpose: Dr. Charles J. Mears was a graduate of Aquinas High School, Class of 1970, and Marquette University. He valued education and promoted continued learning as a  life long activity. He was a dedicated practitioner in the profession of Orthodontics for many years in the La Crosse area.
Award: $500.00 awarded once per year an Aquinas High School student.
Criteria: Awarded to student based on student-written essay, academics, financial need, leadership, and participation in school activities.


Doug Kerrigan Memorial

Award: $100.00 scholarship awarded each year.


Dr. A.W. Hickey

Purpose: Science Scholarship in Honor of Dr. A.W. Hickey.
Award: $500.00 each year to the same student.
Criteria: To be given to an eighth grader entering Aquinas High School. The recipient will receive $500.00 per year for four years in high school as long as they are achieving a 3.0 GPA. Awarded to a merit and needs based student with the emphasis in science.

 
Richard J. Campbell

Award: $500.00 scholarship awarded to a student each year.
Criteria: Awarded to a student in the drama program at AHS. Student must be involved in acting or production of the high school musicals/plays.

 
John A. Elliot

Award: Multiple $1,000.00 scholarships awarded to students each year.
Criteria: High school student with financial need.

 
Msgr. Anthony P. Wagener Propagation of the Faith

Purpose: Along with being a promoter of the missions and a much-loved pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Monsignor Wagener was a great supporter of Aquinas High School where he served as an instructor in religion beginning in 1947.
Award: $250.00 awarded once per year.
Criteria: Exhibits a knowledge of, and love for the Catholic Faith. Student that is generous in sharing his or her time, talent and treasures, and exhibits interest in another culture by either having been a part of a mission trip sponsored by the Diocese of La Crosse or an interest in a foreign language.
 

Patricia Wannemuehler Memorial 

Award: $500.00 scholarship awarded to a female student each year.

Criteria: Awarded to a female student with financial need who is involved in extra curricular activities.

Aquinas High School Freshman Scholarships

Stoll Family

Award: 5 - $250.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Must be an eighth grader entering Aquinas High School in the fall. A deserving student with financial need.


Amy Beth Klein Memorial

Purpose: This fund was established in memory of Amy Beth Klein who was Valedictorian of the Class of 1983 at Aquinas High School. She died suddenly after her graduation from Marquette University in 1987.
Award: Awarded to multiple students at varying amounts.
Criteria: Given to eighth grade graduates to help them attend Aquinas High School. Awarded to students with financial need that otherwise wouldn’t attend Aquinas.

 
Timothy R. & Doris J. Skemp Memorial

Purpose: In memory of Timothy R. and Doris J. Skemp.
Award: $500.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: Awarded to Middle School student that is entering Aquinas High School. Scholarship based on need.

 
Raymond/Coleman

Purpose: In memory of Margaret Ann Raymond (class of 1940), Jeff Raymond (class of 1965), Jim Raymond (class of 1967) and Andrew "Drew" Coleman (class of 2023).
Award: $1,000.00 per year to one student.
Criteria: Incoming freshman student with a financial need.

 
Eugene & Mary Ann Roesler Art

Purpose: To recognize students in the art programs at Aquinas for their efforts.         
Award: 2 - $250.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Eighth grade graduate heading to Aquinas High School. One male and one female student. Students must be involved in art. 

 
Henry C. Eden

Award: $100.00 scholarship awarded each year.
Criteria: Awarded to a graduating eighth grader who will be attending AHS. Based on financial need.

 
William “Bill” Rudolph Memorial

Purpose: In Memory ofWilliam “Dan” Rudolph, Class of 1944.
Award: $500.00 each year to one student.
Criteria: Awarded to an eighth grader entering Aquinas High School. Scholarship may be awarded to same student for up to four years if student continues to meet criteria. Student must be a member of Holy Trinity Parish. Student must be involved in community service.

 
Matthew J. Coulombe Memorial

Purpose: In Memory of Matthew Coulombe who died in 1981 while attending Aquinas.
Award: $400.00 each year to one student.
Criteria: Awarded to an eighth grader entering Aquinas High School. Based on financial need.

 
Kathy Forslund

Award: 4 - $250.00 scholarships.
Criteria: Awarded to eighth grader entering Aquinas High School.

 
Father Robert Hansen

Award: $400.00 scholarship awarded to an eighth grader entering Aquinas High School.
Criteria: Based on financial need.

 
Snapp Family Scholarship

Purpose: In memory of George W. Snapp Jr., George W. Snapp Sr., & Lee J. Snapp
Award: 2- $500.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Given to an incoming freshman to Aquinas High School. Awarded to students involved with community service.

 
David L. Wadzinski Memorial

Purpose: In memory of David L. Waldzinski.
Award: $100.00 awarded each year.
Criteria: Given to an eighth grade graduate entering Aquinas High School. Awarded to a student from Blessed Sacrament School.

 
Fred & Mary Ann Funk Family

Award: $500.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: Freshman student at Aquinas High School with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Aquinas High School Senior Scholarships

Peter J. Murray Memorial

Purpose: In memory of Peter J. Murray, Class of 1992.
Award: $400.00 scholarship awarded each year.
Criteria: Has a strong interest in math and/or science. Student has at least a 3.2 GPA entering their senior year.

Aquinas Post-Graduate Scholarships

Awarded to graduating seniors from AHS

Charles J. Mathy Jr.

Award: At least $1,000.00 per student, up to $3000.00 awarded each year.
Criteria: AHS graduate(s) planning to attend Marquette University.
Awarded to multiple students if applicable. May be re-applied to past recipients that are still enrolled in Marquette. 

 
M & M Memorial

Award: $500.00 awarded to one graduating senior from Aquinas High School.

Criteria: Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Given to a student who shows “heart and effort” for their education and cares about others (not need based or academic based). Must be an active participant in religious, school and community activities. Must be attending a vocational school or other institution of higher learning.

 
Patricia M. Murphy Excellence in Nursing

Purpose: In memory of Patricia M. Murphy, who is remembered for her enduring faith and love of family and friends. She was known as an exceptional, compassionate nurse.

Award: $1,000.00 awarded to one student each year.
Criteria: A graduating senior from Aquinas that is pursing a career in nursing. Awarded to a student that has shown dedication, excitement and passion for helping others. Student that intends to enter the field of nursing, nurse practitioner, LPH or RN.

                             
George P. & Evelyn Miller

Award: $250.00 awarded each year to one graduating senior.
Criteria: Student must be Catholic and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a student that is not receiving any other scholarships. Student must display good character, citizenship, volunteer activities. Based on financial need.

 
Edward & Ella J. Poehling

Award: Amount varies annually.
Criteria: Awarded to a graduating senior from Aquinas High School to be used towards tuition at a post-secondary school.

 
Sara Kerrigan Memorial

Purpose: In memory of Sara Kerrigan, Class of 2006.
Award: $1,000.00 or 2 - $500.00 scholarships awarded each year.
Criteria: Awarded to a graduating senior at Aquinas High School. Student has shown a dedication and desire for the arts and may be pursuing an art degree. Must have a GPA of 3.0.

  

A.J. Petras Scholarship

Purpose: In memory of A.J. Petras, Class of 2011.
Award: Amount varies annually.
Criteria: Awarded to a student who shows strong interest in photography or mathematics. A student who displays a joyful personality and is invovled with motorized vehicles.
